Chapter 1 - Planning for Success

“Failing to plan is planning to fail” one of my favorite quotes!
In this chapter we discuss:
How to decide whether to hold a virtual meeting, costs associated with live vs. virtual, types of engagement in a virtual meeting(community and individual), roles/responsibilities (Host, Facilitator, Moderator, Trainer, Producer), tech terms, and platform choice.
Take inventory on yourself!  Are you prepared to facilitate in the virtual environment? What have you learned about yourself working remotely regarding your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to virtual presentations, meetings and trainings.  Being honest with yourself will point you in the right direction on how to improve your skills.

You can use the cost/benefit sheet to outline each event and help determine the approximate cost savings of conducting a virtual meeting vs. choosing to do alive meeting.  We all know that live meetings are important to have, and honestly after about a year or so of working remotely, just make sense! However, once we get back into a more normal pattern regarding work being onsite or remote, virtual will still hold several advantages over a live meeting.

When to do a virtual meeting? Not the easiest choice, especially in our back and forth world! The correct answer is anytime depending on the situation! Virtual meetings can be successful realistically anytime, but there are some elements of a live meeting that virtual just cant replace. Check out the video for more info!
Having a firm grip on what a platform CAN and CANNOT do will help you design your training for maximum engagement. Knowing the capabilities/limitations of each platform will really help you design the training to meet the learning objectives. Assuming that all platforms are the same is dangerous and could leave your learners in the dark literally if you don’t plan the training correctly.
